Libyan envoys expelled as ex-persona non grata defects

Five loyalists of the Gaddafi regime have been expelled from the Libyan Embassy in London because they posed a national security threat, according to Foreign Secretary William Hague.

Meanwhile Libya’s former foreign minister, Musa Kusa, who defected briefly to Britain before heading to Qatar, was expelled in 1980 after advocating the assassination of rivals to the Gaddafi regime in Britain.

It was hoped the former intelligence chief minister would be able to shed light on the murder of Pc Yvonne Fletcher outside the Libyan Embassy in 1984, the Lockerbie bombing and the alleged shipments of Semtex explosives to the IRA.
