Argentina to send new Ambassador to London
A new Argentine Ambassador is heading to London, to fill a position that has been vacant since 2008.
London and Buenos Aires recently traded diplomatic blows over the sovereignty of the Falkland (Malvinas) Islands as the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War approaches.
Tensions were raised when members of the Mercosur group threatened to close their ports to ships flying the Falklands flag.
But the appointment of the outspoken former trades union leader and Ambassador to Venezuela, Alicia Castro, is seen as a sign of Argentina’s commitment to solve the dispute through diplomatic channels.
