Several countries celebrate important milestones in their history this year so expect a year of celebrations at these missions.
Nepal and Britain kicked off the festivities with celebrations to mark 200 years of friendship, to be followed later in the year with Bahrain, which celebrates its bicentennial of bilateral relations with the UK.
Malta, Malawi and Zambia join the club of Golden Oldies as they celebrate 50 years of independence from Britain. Grenada, meanwhile turns 40 and 2014 marks Brunei’s 30th birthday.
Two infrastructure projects celebrate anniversaries this year which have brought nations and regions together. The Panama Canal was completed a century ago, linking the Atlantic trade with the Pacific. And two decades ago, the Channel Tunnel finally provided a link between Britain and France.
