“We’re feminists” declare male UN Secretary General candidates
With the next UN Secretary General tipped to be a woman, it was a surprise to see an all-male line-up for a debate, co-hosted by the Danish Embassy, The Guardian and the UNA.
Nevertheless in the new era of UN transparency, the audience got to grill three candidates Vuk Jeremic (Serbia), Igor Luksic (Montenegro) and Antonio Guterres (Portugal) including a question to prove their feminist credentials. All three pledged greater gender diversity in the largely male ranks of under-secretary generals.
