Rite of Spring
Bathed in bright sunshine, Bulgaria’s National Day is traditionally the harbinger of Spring for London’s diplomatic corps. Those toasting the celebration typically wear the ‘martenitsa’ red and white tassel symbolising new life.
Ambassador Konstantin Dimitrov invited guests to enjoy the Bulgarian buffet and wine, adding that he hoped guests would take with them “happy memories of the friendly relations between Britain and Bulgaria”.
Bonds between the two countries had flourished since Bulgaria had joined the EU, said the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps Alistair Harrison, adding meaningfully: “Long may that continue.”
