Commonwealth dignitaries and high commissioners
present the Queen with a memorial plaque
Commonwealth leaders and High Commissioners presented Queen Elizabeth with a commemorative plaque at a Diamond Jubilee lunch held at Marlborough House.
The circular cast bronze plaque gives thanks to the Queen for serving the Commonwealth as “the Head and the heart of the Commonwealth family” and for advancing its values of democracy, development and respect for diversity through six decades.
Attending the celebratory lunch were heads of government from Britain, Cameroon, Canada, Malawi, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, St Kitts and Nevis and Zambia.
Leaders arrived to angry scenes outside Marlborough House as around a thousand Tamil demonstrators lined Pall Mall to protest against the presence of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse whom they accuse of presiding over atrocities committed by the Sri Lankan armed forces during the civil war.
