Embassy Induction Seminar 2013 Review
Welcome to a new generation of envoys
Almost 200 new diplomats and their families from 90 missions packed the halls of 11 Cavendish Square for the 2013 Diplomatic Induction Seminar for a day of briefings and intense networking.
Newcomers started the day with an introduction to diplomacy with the Foreign Office, the Marshal and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, followed by a Living in London session that included talks by the Diplomatic Protection Group on safety, as well as briefings on transport, finance, healthcare, education and accommodation in the Capital.
The afternoon was devoted to diplomacy where envoys attended specialist workshops in politics, the press, culture, education, consular work, trade and economics, admin and finance. They were able to meet key contacts from various government departments, parliament as well as the private and NGO sector.
And in between envoys were able to meet trusted diplomatic service providers on hand to smooth their transition to their new life in London.
The event ended on a high with a lively wine reception where some diplomats struck it lucky in the prize draw. But with pockets bulging with cards and bags full of information, everybody ended the day a winner.
