Embassy siege gunman paroled

LONDON – The only surviving terrorist from the Iranian Embassy siege has been released on parole.

Fowzi Badavi Nejad was jailed for 28 years for his involvement in the 1980 attack but will not be deported until the Home Office has assurances he will not face the death penalty in Iran.

Nejad was among six terrorists who stormed the Iranian embassy in central London in April 1980, taking 26 people hostage.
