“We’re feminists” – UN Secretary General candidates

With the next UN Secretary General tipped to be a woman, it was a surprise to see an all-male line-up for a debate, co-hosted by the Danish Embassy, The Guardian and the UNA.

Nevertheless in the new era of UN transparency, the audience got to grill three candidates – Vuk Jeremic (Serbia), Igor Luksic (Montenegro) and Antonio Guterres (Portugal) – including a question to prove their feminist credentials. All three pledged greater gender diversity in the largely male ranks of under-secretary generals.
