World Maritime Day

To mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, the theme for this year’s World Maritime Day was safety at sea. In his first World Maritime Day message, IMO Secretary General Koji Sekimizu said the tragedy resulted in a series of measures which would eventually evolve into the IMO. The Secretary General added that more needed to be done to ensure the safety of the precious “cargo” of cruise ships and announced a seminar in June next year to examine ways forward.
