International Students Day
Education attachés accompanied by their most talented students joined together with parliamentarians for a celebration of International Students Day, co-hosted by the London Education Research Network (LEARN) and the All Party Parliamentary Group for International Students (APPG-IS).
Diplomats and their students heard the views of the most enthusiastic supporters of international students in the British political establishment.
Universities Minister Jo Johnson said the UK continued to welcome students, while APPG-IS co-chair Paul Blomfield MP said international students enriched the learning experiences of local students and contributed billions to the British economy. But APPG-IS co-chair Lord Bilimoria warned that Britain’s popularity as a destination for international students was at risk due to short-sighted immigration policies and appealed to Home Secretary Amber Rudd to take international students out of the net migration figures.
