Start-up nation
It was standing room only at Israel’s National Day as diplomats, politicians and friends of Israel crowded into the Hilton Metropole Hotel to welcome the new Ambassador of Israel to London Mark Regev.
Addressing the audience, Ambassador Regev said as a 68-year-old state, Israel was “neither slowing down nor getting ready to retire” but would embrace the next 68 years “with energy and Israeli chutzpah”. The Ambassador said he was proud that penniless Jewish refugees from four corners of the world had been welcomed to Israel and had built a stable democracy and a prosperous economy in a land without natural resources.
Addressing the audience, Middle East Minister Tobias Ellwood marvelled at Israel’s success as a high-tech “start-up nation” and added that the British-Israeli partnership would continue to deepen and strengthen.
