The FCO’s latest employee got the job by a whisker. Black and white cat Palmerston – named after two-time British Prime Minister Viscount Palmerston – has been recruited by the FCO to deal with a vermin problem at its King Charles Street HQ.

The two-year-old moggy, whose title is Chief Mouser, hails from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and Tweets rather than meows (follow him on @DiploMog).

According to Lindsey Quinlan, Battersea’s Head of Catteries, Palmerston is “a very confident cat, who loves people and enjoys a good chin rub.” News from the FCO is the new recruit is up to scratch.
