Secretary General Kitack Lim and Assembly President Federico Trillo

Spanish Ambassador Mr Federico Trillo was appointed President of the 29th Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). It is the first time in the IMO’s history that Spain has chaired the Assembly.

The 29th session also endorsed the appointment of Mr Kitack Lim (Republic of Korea) as Secretary-General from 1 January 2016 and elected the 40-Member Council for the 2016/17 biennium.

In the hotly-contested Category C election, Egypt was voted on and Jamaica was voted off.
