UK to open Burma interest office

The Foreign Office will establish a “British interests office” in Burma’s new capital Naypyidaw, Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a written statement to MPs.

The move follows Prime Minister David Cameron’s visit to Myanmar, the first Western leader to visit the country in decades.

Mr Hague said an interests office would “demonstrate [Britain’s] intention to step up engagement with the Burmese government and people”.
