US Ambassador ‘flips out’

A friendly wager saw US Ambassador Matthew Barzun and Belgian Ambassador Guy Trouveroy pitted against each other in a Great Belgrave Square Bake-Off.

As the two countries were playing each other in the Football World Cup the US Ambassador made a bet with his Belgian counterpart: if the USA lost, he’d make pancakes at the Belgian Embassy; but if his side won, the Belgian Ambassador would have to serve up Belgian waffles at the US Embassy.

The Belgian Ambassador loves a duel (he is a fencer after all) and accepted the challenge. Belgium emerged victorious and so it was Ambassador Barzun who had to eat humble pie – or rather pancakes – at the Belgian Residence.
