US Embassy hosts superstar for LGBT Aids fund launch
Ambassador Barzun, Sir Elton John, his husband David Furnish and Brooke Barzun
In the run-up to World Aids Day, US Ambassador Matthew Barzun hosted megastar and gay rights campaigner Sir Elton John at Winfield House for the launch of a joint US$10m fund between the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF) and the US President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR). The fund aims to help LGBT Aids sufferers, who are often shunned by their communities, get easier access to the services they need.
Sir Elton has also taken his campaign to Russian President Vladimir Putin who recently phoned him in person and offered to meet to discuss gay rights in Russia.
