DSCL – a place of belonging

The President of the Diplomatic Spouses Club London Anđela Đinđić extends a welcome to diplomatic families in the capital
As winter settles over London and the year unfolds, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all new spouses and partners joining our diplomatic community. My name is Anđela, and I have the honour of serving as President of the Diplomatic Spouses Club London (DSCL). It is a true privilege to continue the mission of connecting, supporting, and enriching the lives of diplomatic families in this remarkable city we now call home.
Founded in 2014, the DSCL is a not-for-profit organisation that brings together more than 120 members from over 66 nations, including British diplomats. Our members are the spouses and partners of High Commissioners, Ambassadors, and diplomats serving in London. Our mission is simple yet meaningful — to foster friendship, cultural exchange, and mutual support within our diverse international community.
Embracing Change and New Beginnings
Arriving in a new country is both exciting and challenging. Adapting to London’s rhythm — from navigating daily routines and understanding local systems to embracing its many accents and traditions — can at times feel overwhelming.
As diplomatic spouses, we share these experiences and understand the unique transitions that come with each new posting. The Diplomatic Spouses Club exists to make those transitions smoother — to offer connection, encouragement, and a genuine sense of belonging.
Within DSCL, you will find a welcoming community where friendships flourish, stories are shared, and every member feels valued. Together, we make the challenges of relocation lighter and the joys of discovery deeper.
Life at DSCL
Our Club offers a rich programme of activities designed to engage, inspire, and connect our members. These include guided tours of museums and galleries, wellness and mindfulness workshops, walking tours, and international cuisine lunches. We also enjoy coffee mornings and afternoon teas — cherished moments to experience British culture, enjoy conversation, and strengthen friendships.
This year, we introduced a new monthly activity, “Sit & Chat,” recognising how important it is to create space for open conversation and connection. Sometimes, sharing a cup of tea and a friendly exchange with someone who understands your journey can make all the difference. We also introduced seasonal social receptions, where we warmly welcome our diplomats and celebrate the spirit of community.

Living in London is not only an adventure but also a valuable opportunity to embrace the present moment and find meaning in everyday experiences. Through DSCL, members are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, try new things, and create memories that will last well beyond their time in London.
Looking Ahead
We are planning an engaging and diverse programme for the year ahead. Highlights include:
- Cultural Experiences: Private visits to museums, galleries, and historic homes, as well as opportunities to meet artists, chefs, and cultural figures who bring London’s creativity to life.
- Seasonal Gatherings: From festive winter celebrations to spring outings, our seasonal events foster togetherness and joy throughout the year.
- Volunteering Initiatives: Meaningful opportunities to contribute to local communities and strengthen connections beyond the diplomatic circle.
- Social and Networking Events: Jazz evenings, family days, and informal “Sit & Chat” sessions designed to build friendships and encourage exchange.
Each of these activities reflects our commitment to community, curiosity, and wellbeing — the values that lie at the heart of DSCL.
Why Join the DSCL?
Becoming part of the Diplomatic Spouses Club London means joining a welcoming network of peers who understand both the joys and challenges of diplomatic life. Membership offers opportunities to:
- Build lasting friendships with spouses and partners from around the world.
- Explore London’s cultural, historical, and social life through exclusive and enriching activities.
- Participate in workshops and talks that broaden perspectives and support personal growth.

A Warm Invitation
I warmly invite all diplomatic spouses and partners to join us this year and experience the vibrancy of our community firsthand. London is a city of culture, connection, and discovery — and through the Diplomatic Spouses Club London, you will find not only ways to explore the city, but also friendships and experiences that make your time here truly memorable.
