Easter Banquet
It was a night of fanfare, fine dining and fabulous frocks as the Lord Mayor of London welcomed Heads of Mission, MPs and City grandees to Mansion House for the annual Easter Banquet.
There was an especially warm greeting for the Ambassadors and Heads of Mission of the 25 countries the Lord Mayor will be visiting during his term in office.
After a cocktail reception, a loud gong summed guests to a sumptuous banquet before trumpeters in gold announced the evening’s speakers, including a keynote speech from the guest of honour Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond who focused his remarks on Britain’s response to the major threats of Islamic extremism, Russian aggression, the European referendum and the migration crisis (see article p3). He concluded by saying that Britain would continue to play a role on the world stage.
