A strong turnout
High Commissioner Syed Ibne Abbas lauded the “exemplary strength” of the Pakistani people as guests gathered for a memorable celebration of the country’s National Day. “Despite some formidable challenges Pakistan today is a confident nation undergoing a silent revolution,” he said. “It’s sweeping around the country and producing positive results in the shape of an economic turnaround and social-cultural changes. There has been enhanced investment in the fields of education, health and social justice.”
Guest speaker Owen Jenkins, the Prime Minister’s special representative for Pakistan, said the night was also a celebration of the bonds that tie the UK and Pakistan. “The strongest of those is the strength of the Pakistan community in the UK,” he says. “They make such a huge contribution to our national life.”
