Back to the Future
The sounds of Slovak folk songs greeted guests joining Slovak Ambassador L’ubomír Rehák and his wife Dana to celebrate their National Day. This, combined with heaps of Slovak food, fine wines and concerts is typical of the couple’s legendary hospitality and a great start to the diplomatic season with so many new faces.
And there is much more to come in 2018, said the Ambassador, pointing out that the number eight holds a “mystical importance” to Slovakia. “We celebrate 100 years of Czechoslovakia and also commemorate events interfering with our development like the Munich Agreement of 1938, the Communist putsch of 1948 and Soviet occupation of 1968,” Ambassador Rehák explained. “And then there’s the 25th anniversary of our independent statehood and establishing diplomatic relations with the UK.” We can’t wait!
